Corrupted Files


When I try to download a file from within the Repository - either a PDF or .docx - I either get a 'file corrupted' error (Word) or just a blank document (PDF). The files work fine from within the DNN File Manager.

The issue is one of compression. To solve your problem, you need to turn off compression for the folder that contains the repository files. See the forums on In the Repository forum you'll find all the information you need

The only Repository post I could find referencing compression is this one:

In it, you state that "The Repository module uses the same code as the core File Manager to download files." That being the case, why am I able to download the files from the File Manager with no problem, but not from the Repository?

I had our hosting provider turn off compression, but it made no difference.

The issue is caused by compression. Making sure the repository files are not compressed will solve the issue

I had them do it again and make sure that compression is off for the entire site - still not working. I also checked the file sizes in the SQL DB as mentioned in another article and they're fine.

Is this site public, can you share the URL, if not can you take a look at the header that are being returned from the server? The headers might indicate some form of compression. Are you using any DNN specific compression tools like PageBlaster, etc.?

looking into the issue ... what I've noticed that is different on your site vs. sites where it's working, is that in your site, the response header for the download has 'TransferEncoding=chunked' as opposed to sites that work that do not have that value and instead have a ContentLength setting in the response header

Is that a hosting provider issue, or a setting in DNN, IIS, or what? That site is hosted with 3Essentials, who was recommended by Mitch Sellers because they support and have experience with DNN. Thanks again for looking into this!

Here is the response I got when I asked 3Essentials about Chunked Encoding:

The value AspEnableChunkedEncoding is set to true globally for all of the sites on this host.

So this isnt a value that can be changed.

Understand that we have many DNN sites on this host, and that they are not reporting any of the issues that you are seeing.

Please reference the following MSoft kb about AspEnableChunkedEncoding.
